Dear Parents,

I hope you and your families are well and safe in this current situation.

As promised, I am writing to update you about our academy and to inform you of our future plans. In response to the evolving COVID-19 situation the contractors, Bowmer + Kirkland, have temporarily suspended construction at the Bearsted Primary Academy site. As a result, it is unlikely that the new academy building will be ready until later in the autumn.

We have been in discussions with the DfE and our colleagues in Leigh Academies Trust (LAT) to put in place, short term, contingency plans to ensure that the academy will open. Consequently we have teamed up with Mrs Fidock, Principal of Langley Park Primary Academy, to ensure that your child will still be able to attend Reception at Bearsted Primary Academy on the 1st September 2020.

It has been agreed that we would initially be based at Langley Park Primary Academy until our own building is complete. In this location our children will have their own dedicated classrooms and safe space to learn and play. Our Bearsted Primary Academy team is now based at Langley Park and over the coming weeks I will be working closely with Mrs Fidock and Deborah Biggenden, LAT Academies Director, to make sure everything is ready and in place for our children on the first day of term.

We have, however, very regrettably made the decision to postpone the opening of our nursery until January 2021. This was a hard decision, but one which was solely based around the safety of our children and to minimise disruption for our nursery children. Our application form is still accessible on the academy website ready for January, and we invite you to complete it to secure your child’s place.

As part of LAT, we are extremely fortunate to be surrounded by those who are truly focused and dedicated in providing the best education for all children across our schools. My thanks to Mrs Fidock for enabling us to still provide a first class education in a time when everything is so uncertain. I also wish to assure you that my team and I continue to work on the necessary preparations for the transition into our amazing new home as soon as possible. I look forward to bringing you news of this as we move through the summer.

I understand that this information may leave you with a number of questions and I am happy to answer those that you may have via my direct email at: charlotte.barnden@bearstedprimaryacademy.org.uk, between the hours of 8am-6pm, Monday-Friday.

Yours sincerely

Charlotte Barnden
