Dear Families,

I hope this letter finds you well and you are enjoying the summer holidays. It is with great delight that I can inform you that due to the pure dedication and hard work of Ben and the rest of the team at B&K, our brand new school is looking to be ready for our start in September.

Last week, at our most recent build meeting, we were informed that the site team are aiming to be complete and ready for handover on the 1st September, as long as all continues to go to plan over the next two weeks. This is fantastic news and means our intention for our pupils to start school in September at Bearsted Primary Academy is looking more and more likely. This means that our pupils will hopefully be in their brand new classrooms instead of our alternative arrangements at Langley Park Primary Academy.

Due to the handover being planned for the 1st September, it does however mean that our pupils will not be able to start until the 7th September. This will allow staff time to prepare the building for our children joining us and ensure our learning environment is ready for our families and pupils to be welcomed in. It also allows for IT installation and for any snagging work to be completed making sure our environment is 100% safe and ready for our pupils and their families.

As a result, I am proposing the following regarding transition and how we have planned the start of term to look. On Monday 7th September we will invite families to visit our school attending one of the 4 sessions available to them. You can book which session you and your child would like to attend by following the link for your child’s class below (please click on your child’s class name for the link to appear):

  • Paddington Class
  • Rupert Class

This is compulsory for all, therefore we ask that you book before the 31st August so we know who is attending at which time. Each session will be up to an hour long and will have space for 5 pupils and their accompanying adult, helping us to maintain social distancing within school and so we can adhere to Government guidelines. Within the session you will have the opportunity to meet your child’s class teacher and Learning Support Assistant (LSA), explore their new classroom and have a tour of the school (as long as no building work is still being carried out). Your class teacher will give a short presentation to inform you of how the school day will look and answer any questions you may have. I will also be available to answer any questions and will be visiting each class to say hello to our pupils.

On Tuesday 8th September we will then invite our children in for the morning session plus lunch (8:30am-1pm) as an additional transition time. This will allow your child time to get to know their new teacher, LSA, environment and classmates in a more relaxed way and without their family member present. For both days we invite children to wear their own clothes as these are transitional.

Wednesday 9th September will be our official first day of term. All pupils will be starting full time from Wednesday, coming in in full school uniform (our uniform policy is available on our school website if you have not already seen it). Gates will open at 8:30am, registration will be at 8:40am. We ask that our pupils bring either a school bag or their school book bag to take home their gift from us which they will receive on their first day- a Bearsted Primary Academy drinks bottle and their own Bearsted Bear. Lunch will be provided; the menu agreed with myself and our catering company Cucina will be sent to all families nearer to the time as this is still to be confirmed. We try to encourage all children to have a school dinner as it enables us to support the development of many life skills such as using a knife and fork correctly and being able to sit at a dinner table with friends. If, however, you feel your child is unable to have the school dinner they may bring in a healthy packed lunch from home to eat alongside their new friends. School dinner is free to all children under the age of 7 however we do ask that if you feel your child qualifies for Pupil Premium that you let us know so we can support you with the process in accessing this.

Our school day will finish at 3pm when our pupils will be collected by their parents from outside their classroom. Teachers will only allow a child to go home once their parent/guardian has stepped forward to collect them from the door. If a child is being picked up by someone different the school will need to be notified as will their class teacher. If a child is not being picked up and they are attending our after school club provision, their class teacher will walk them round to where it is being held.

From Wednesday 9th September our after school wrap around care (3-6pm) will be available to all families and from Thursday 10th September so will our breakfast club (7:30-8:30am). This will be led by our two experienced LSAs- Mrs Hardy and Miss Bates. To book your child in for either breakfast club or after school club please email us at so we can reserve your child’s place. More information regarding our wrap around care is available on our school website.

In regards to establishing our school PTA and the possibility of becoming a parent Governor, which I know a number of parents have been interested in starting and being part of, further information will be sent out in September. I would like to thank those who have already expressed interest in both roles/responsibilities as these are vital to our school and benefit our pupils greatly.

Finally, I would like to thank all of our families for your engagement with us leading up to the school’s opening. I can’t wait to officially meet all our families and pupils who will be joining our Bearsted Primary Academy community. The coming year will be an exciting one where together we have the most unique opportunity to establish an outstanding school, providing a rich, diverse, exciting and supportive learning experience to all our pupils joining us.

If you have any questions or queries regarding the start of term do not hesitate to contact us at where we will aim to get back to you as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Charlotte Barnden
