The first year at Bearsted Primary Academy has been challenging and successful. Opening a brand new school during a global pandemic was never going to be easy, but staff and pupils have risen to the task. The last few weeks have been difficult with rising Covid infection rates in the local area and the need to ask some of our pupils and staff to self-isolate in line with government requirements. Your support in these matters has been hugely valued.
Back in September, we started with just two classes in Reception. In January, we opened our nursery which is already very popular with parents. Due to demand for places, at the request of Kent County Council, we opened another class for pupils in years 1 and 2 shortly after and numbers have risen throughout the year.
From September, we will be close to two full classes in each of Reception and year 1 and due to the ongoing growth in pupil numbers we will separate years 2 and 3 into separate classes for the first time. We are delighted to have appointed Rebecca Croft, Katherine Livesey and Jennifer Rose (Chambers) as new class teachers. In addition, Luke Coulson joins us as Assistant Principal to help strengthen our developing leadership team. You should have received a letter by now detailing which teacher(s) your child will have from September.
At the end of this academic year, Miss Barnden will be stepping down from Bearsted Primary Academy to explore new career opportunities. This has been a challenging year for everyone in the education sector so we are grateful for Miss Barnden’s tireless devotion to the school, its pupils and its staff. We would like to thank Miss Barnden for all of her work at the school and we wish her well for the future.
Leading the academy from September will be Mrs Tipple who is also Principal of Leigh Academies Trust’s highest performing primary, typically amongst the top ten in Kent. Mrs Tipple will take over as Principal until a new substantive appointment is made to this post which we expect will be next January. She will write to you soon setting out her plans for the autumn term.
We were delighted to host our first sports day recently despite the various Covid restrictions which meant that arrangements had to be different to a normal year. You can find a video of this event on our website. We now look forward to our end of year celebration event on 20th July which will mark everyone’s superb efforts over the past twelve months.
In recent weeks we have been investing in more resources for the library and the early years learning areas. Over the summer we will be bringing more of our brand new classrooms into action ready for all pupils to return in September. Thank you for all of your encouragement this year as we work hard to make Bearsted Primary Academy the school of choice for local families.
