We are now only a few days away until the opening of our school when we can finally welcome our families in, and for our pupils to officially start on Wednesday 9th September.
Before you come on site next week, I wanted to remind you of our transition plans and inform you of our current situation. As you are aware, due to the impact COVID-19 has had on the build, we are running slightly behind and parts of our building will not be ready for another couple of weeks. However, thanks to the pure determination of the B&K team we have managed to complete certain key aspects of our brand new academy allowing us to welcome our children in from their very first day of joining us. As I hope you will agree, this is fantastic news and has meant less upheaval for our children.
When visiting the site next week please note that because our site is so new, we have found that Google maps isn’t giving the correct directions on how to find us. To ensure you don’t get lost on route please follow the directions below:
Travelling from Bearsted towards Newnham Court:
- Drive along Bearsted Road until you come to the roundabout
- At the roundabout take the 3rd exit, onto Newnham Court Way (You will see signs welcoming you onto the KIMS Medical Campus)
- Take the next turning on your right on to Gidds Pond Way
- Continue along that road, past Invicta Care Home on your left
- On the bend you will see a new road on your left, this road will lead you directly to the school
Monday 7th September- Meeting the team
All families were asked to book in for one of the four time slots available throughout the day. Please can I ask that families arrive on time for their chosen time slot but do not enter the building until it is time to do so. This will allow us time to ensure all cleaning has been completed between each session and that the necessary systems are in place so that families can be welcomed in safely. If you would like to wear a face mask then please feel free to do so, but this is not expected of you. Hand washing will be encouraged at multiple times and hand sanitizer will be available to everyone during their time on site. We will only be permitting one adult to accompany their child for this visit but we will, at a later date, allow opportunities for whole families to visit when safe to do so. During this time, children will have a chance to meet a small number of their new classmates as well as their class teacher and LSA (Learning Support Assistant). Families will be given information about their child’s time at Bearsted Primary Academy, will be shown around key areas and will have a chance to ask any questions during this time.
Tuesday 8th September- Transition morning, 8:30- 1pm
Children are invited to join us for a transition morning, experiencing school for half a day in order to get to know their new friends and environment a little better. They are to come in their own clothes. A snack, lunch and drink will be provided for them. Unfortunately Cucina, our catering company, have informed me they won’t quite be ready to provide hot lunches next week as some of their equipment is still being installed, but they will be available from Monday 14th September. Until then, we will provide an individual packed lunch made by Cucina for all pupils which they are entitled to through Universal Free School Meals. The packed lunch will be a choice of sandwich/roll, a piece of fruit and a piece of cake/cookie (please see the menu attached). Each morning pupils will be able to make a choice of the filling they would like in their sandwich and they will be freshly made to order. If you are concerned about any dietary needs or would rather your child bring their own packed lunch in until our kitchen is fully operational, then please feel free to do so. On Monday, class teachers will inform parents of how to access the site on Tuesday, and where to drop off and pick up.
Wednesday 9th September- Official First Day of School
Children will be welcomed in for their first official day of primary school, entering the school gates at 8:30am and wearing school uniform. If you have any concerns around school uniform orders being late or items missing, please do not worry as we are aware there have been a number of issues throughout the summer surrounding this. As long as children are in the basic uniform (navy shorts/trousers/skirt or green summer dress, a white shirt- no polo shirts- and smart school shoes) then this should be fine. Children do not need to bring anything with them apart from their healthy packed lunch if they have chosen not to have the one provided for them and a coat dependent on the weather. Each child will be receiving their very own school water bottle on arrival. PE kits are not needed for the first week. Children are to be picked up at 3:00pm via the classroom door.
Wrap Around Care
From Wednesday afternoon we will be providing wrap around care for those families who require it. After school club will be available from 3:00pm-6:00pm, costing £3 per hour. Those children staying for the second hour will be given the option of a light meal at 4:30pm. Breakfast club will start Thursday 10th at 7:30am-8:30am, costing £3 per session. We will be using ParentPay in the future to book and pay for these sessions but in the meantime if you are interested in taking up the wrap around care provision please complete the following forms:
I hope this has answered your questions in preparation for next week. If there is anything else, please do not hesitate to get in contact and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible. I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for your patience and understanding over the last few weeks regarding the uncertainty over whether our building will be completed on time. I hope you will agree it has been worth the wait; we are so looking forward to welcoming you, families and pupils, into our academy in the next few days.
With very best wishes,
